Relacion de la orden y manera de proceder del Santo Officio ... de la Inquisicion, 1700-1799?.

Manuscript copy of a 1559 relacion by Philip II ("Regnante en Espána Philippo 2") and Pope Paul IV ("Presidente en la yglesia Paulo 4") relating the procedures to be followed by the Holy Office of the Inquisition (Santo Officio) in the districts of Spain, Portugal, Mexico, Italy, etc. The document lists the salaries to be paid the Inquisitioners (Inquisidores) and the members of their staff according to their positions. It includes a detailed description of the rooms in which the questioning and sentencing of individuals was to take place, complete with drawings of the cross and shields that were to adorn each door. The manner in which confessed sinners were to be punished is explained in great detail. This copy of the original relacion was probably created in the mid-18th century.
